Dangote Foundation’s Micro Grants Program: Govt Sets Up Selection Committee

Beneficiary Selection Committee Members for the Dangote Foundation’s Micro grants program have been told not to see the funds as political, for family members, friends and associates.

The fund, the Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, explained is aimed at economically empowering and providing financial support to women to help families meet their livelihood needs, boost their economic and consumption activities.

It would be recalled that following the outbreak of last year’s flood that ravaged Kogi State, Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his foundation promised to empower 22,000 women with Micro grants.

The State Government collaborating with the Foundation disclosed that the grant is to assist in replicating business and not for body care,jewellery and new cloths.

Towards ensuring that the monies get to those it is meant for, the State Government, Wada explained will develop an appropriate evaluation and monitoring strategy, disclosing that the funds is not a Micro credit scheme, but a kind gesture to the poor and the unemployed women within the 21 Local Government Areas and Obajana communities.

Represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi at the inauguration ceremony used the forum to once again reiterate that every donation made towards the flood will be delivered to those intended.

Earlier in her speech, the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Halima Wada, expressed her gratitude to Dangote Foundation, said with government lean resources, there is the need to partner with individuals and organisations towards improving the lives of women in the State.

The Wife of the Governor assured that the selection committee is conscious and aware of her determination at improving the lives of the rural poor,said she will not leave any stone unturned in her  efforts at empowering women in the State.

While urging the committee to handle the assignment with utmost sincerity, she noted that her Non – Government Organisation, Kogi women empowerment network is committed to improving the well-being of women in the State.

Also speaking, Dr. (Mrs.) Temitope Sinkaiye, Special Adviser on Women and Youths disclosed that the selection Committee which comprises of KOWEN official is saddled with selection of beneficiaries, training,disbursements of the grants as well as supervision, monitoring and evaluation of beneficiaries.
