Born to the family of Late Chief Joel Kolade Bodunde in the morning of 6th April, 1963, Mrs. Olutokunbo Awoniyi, wife of the Kogi State Deputy Governor celebrated God’s faithfulness as she turned 50.
The Golden jubilee celebration, held in Lagos also coincided with the 25th wedding anniversary of her marriage to Yomi Awoniyi.
Raised by parents who Mrs. Awoniyi disclosed showed her so much love and affection, she grew up amidst wonderful siblings who loved and cared for her.
Mrs. Awoniyi, recalled with nostalgic feeling how her father passed on 4 years ago, adding that she greatly miss him.
Her father’s love and affection through her formative years, adolescence and adulthood, she explained are qualities she greatly missed.
For her Mum, who she disclosed is a woman that God has given the gift of knowledge and wisdom, nurtured her with care and also taught her the rudiments of life. She was quick to add that she also taught her how to always be herself and care for those around her.
Mrs. Awoniyi, attended Nursery/Primary Schools in Kaduna and Ilorin, and obtained her Primary School Leaving Certificate from St. Joseph’s Primary School, Ilorin, obtained her West African School Leaving Certificate in 1979.
The Deputy Governor’s wife obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology, in 1984 from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. She later proceeded to the University of Lagos and obtained a Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1989.
After her post NYSC in 1985, Mrs. Awoniyi worked with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Department in Lagos. She worked with the Federal Civil Service for 6 years and decided to join the Banking Industry in 1991.
A woman who can aptly be described as a woman of many parts, Tokunbo Awoniyi, joined Habib Bank Nigeria in 1991, which later became Bank PHB and left for Ecobank in 2006. She left the service of Ecobank in 2010 and became a Director of Candid Trade Nigeria Limited.
A woman whose career has been remarkable in the sense that she has been outstanding in every role she has played from her days as a Civil Servant. Since given her life to Christ, she has remained active in the service of the Lord for according to her to whom much is given, much is required.
Her desire as wife of the Deputy Governor is to assist the wife of the State Governor, Hajia Halima Wada in reaching out to the needy and disadvantaged through the Kogi women Empowerment Network (KOWEN).
In her private capacity Mrs. Awoniyi, formed an outreach named Mary and Martha Outreach. Mary and Martha Outreach is involved in granting succor to the needy, disadvantaged and the under privileged. Through the outreach, she has touched the lives of drug addicts, the homeless, prisoners and orphans.
Married to a wonderful husband Abayomi, whom she disclosed God has specially chosen for her, she said she could not have wished for another, as he is God’s special gift to her alone, calls her Jibiks Jibiks, (Jibike) one of her names.
Forward looking, beautiful at 50, land principled, and yet humble, Tokunbo described Yomi as her mentor and her best friend.
According to her he has continued to shower her with so much affection, prayed God to bless the Deputy Governor whom she fondly calls honey.
Blessed with three wonderful children whom she showers with so much love and care, Mrs. Awoniyi, described them as her source of joy. She says she tend to be over protective of them as her husband as she had to wait a bit, before they were blessed.
At 50 you can’t miss Tokunbo Awoniyi’s smiles, and warmth. Certainly her style, also disclosed that she is blessed with wonderful sisters and brothers in-law. She thanked her mother in-law whom she disclosed had been so wonderful to her and has treated her like a daughter.
Presently, Mrs. Tokunbo at 50 finds herself in the throes of politics as the wife of the Deputy Governor. She thanked God for his continued support and for upholding her and her husband in the elevated position.
Mrs. Awoniyi, expressed her gratitude to the Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada and the First Lady, Hajia Halima Wada both of whom have taken Yomi and her as younger siblings. She prayed God to bless and keep both of them safe and well as well as to enlarge their coast now and always.
The 50th Birthday bash and wedding anniversary which was attended by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, also had the wife of the State Governor, Hajia Halima Wada and Remi Fashola wife of the Lagos State Governor.
Other dignitaries in attendance include; wives of the Deputy Governor’s of Edo, Enugu and Anambra State.
The occasion had Senator Smart Adeyemi, Member Representing West Senatorial District leading the pack of National Assembly Members in the State.
Some members of the State Executive Council, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Businessmen, relatives and friends of Awoniyi’s in attendance, all paid glowing tribute to a woman they referred to as a friend, sister, woman with the zeal to reach the unchurched for Christ and above all a caring and loving mother.
In her tribute, Hajia Halima Wada specially described Tokunbo as lively, a happy person and always gaily and brightly dressed adding that Mrs. Tokunbo is always a fun to be with.
Though the above captures Mrs. Awoniyi’s story at 50, the Deputy Governor’s wife, says she knows God still has a lot in store for her as her bible tells her that the year of jubilee is a time of new beginning, progress and restoration.Share this on WhatsApp
