The enhancement of people’s lives through provision of infrastructure from government at all levels is one of the basic rights of the people. This is why infrastructure provision remains one of the yardsticks with which a government’s performance is measured.

This is because wherever there is a dearth of critical infrastructure, the people face untold hardship.

Apart from the economic importance of the projects to the people, this is one of the most important roles of government.

In Kogi State however, most of the projects federal and state government projects designed to make life more easy for the people have been abandoned at various stages. Some of these include the Ajaokuta Steel complex and Itakpe Iron Ore company which if completed and put to use, would mop up a large number of unemployed youths in the state and beyond, and also boost the economy of the state and country at large.

The Federal road between Okene through Ajaokuta to Itobe-Anyigba, today, is nothing to write home about. So many accidents have occurred on this road leading to the untimely death of those who would have contributed to the development of the country.

The federal road between Lokoja-Kabba-Ilorin has become a death trap with untold man hours lost when travelling through it.

The Idah-Shintaku road, which was designated a federal road has also been abandoned.

The same goes for the Idah-Odolu road and Abejukolo- Ankpa road. The boundary town of Awo-Ojoku in Ankpa local government which links Kogi to Benue State in the eastern axis has also been abandoned.

Many residents of Kogi have decried the state of the roads, noting that these were the roads the federal government used during the civil war to send troops from the north to prosecute the Biafran war.

The Idah sanitary ware, a multi-million naira project inherited from Benue state and Acharu Oil Mill which was a money spinning project before now has also been abandoned.

The Okaba coal mine in Ankpa local government adjudged one of the best sub-bitumen coal plants in the sub-region has also failed.

The housing project in the 21 local government areas of the state has been abandoned, even though conracts were  awarded and recurred in so many budgets.

The Ankpa-Imane and Ojoku-Okaba roads are good examples of projects which contract was awarded but which have been abandoned.

The Ofante-Ogugu-Adupi-Ikem road which was awarded by the state government has also been abandoned.
